West Nassau High School Aquaponics Facility

West Nassau High School started a biotechnical agricultural program beginning in the 2015 school year. The program explores the future of farming and the techniques associated with sustainable agriculture. The nonprofit was approached by the school’s Principal Mr. Curtis Gaus and a partnership developed. The partnership evolved with the school and the lead teacher, Ms. Karen Zobel. The teacher along with her students started attending mini workshops on how to care for a greenhouse facility at a local farm. The school was awarded the greenhouse facility with contributions given to the Center for Sustainable Agricultural Excellence and Conservation. This is part of the nonprofit’s goal of developing an institute for education and outreach for individuals to learn about sustainable agriculture practices/techniques and resource conservation.
